21001 Aquitania Abstract of Log
Rarely seen post World War II abstract of log dated October 19, 1948.
Captain Grattidge, who would become famous as captain of the Queens and for
his book of that name. Cunard found a new life for Aquitania on
emigrant service to Canada. The Canadian government assured Cunard of
making at least £25,000 pounds per round trip. If Cunard made more,
then Cunard kept the extra. If they made less, the government made up the
difference. It's tough to find items from her post-war service.
$22. |
|

 |
14388 Aquitania Blotter I
love these ink blotters. Produced as colorful advertising pieces, they
were inexpensive yet effective ways of promoting the companies ships.
This striking image of Aquitania most probably dates to the 1920s.
Measures 9½ "x 4½". $40. |

 |
21005 Aquitania Brochure
Printed on
glossy paper, which makes the photos quite clear. 32 pages with 54 (!)

elsewhere, including such oddities as her motor lifeboat with bamboo
wireless mast raised, the upper bridge before it was enclosed, the
cabin-class barber shop, the cabin-class verandah café, etc. Embossed cover

her. Great condition with some small tears on the edge of the cover. $250. |

 |
21219 Aquitania Brochure
It’s curious how many early Aquitania brochures have her looking like a
bloated Mauretania. It’s not a bad look for her. Why they squared off the
front of the superstructure is anyone’s guess. A full-color brochure dating
from the immediate post-war era. Eight fold-out pages for third class.
When was the last time you saw third class in color!? Six color images,
including a double-page painting of Mauretania at speed. In French.
Excellent condition. $55. |
|

sugar drawing of Aquitania over a Cunard house flag. The photos are of
excellent quality and are very clear. Dates to circa 1930. Near mint
condition. $115. |
|

 |
21020 Aquitania Brochure
Aquitania spent most of her service life as a transatlantic liner, but in
the 1930’s she did some extended cruises. One of these was to Rio. Among
the ports of call were Nassau, Panama, La Guaira, Trinidad, Bahia, Barbados,
Bermuda, and Rio.
The
brochure is specially constructed in a way I have never seen before. With
identical reverse covers embossed in gold, one cover in blue and one cover
in green. In a Yin and Yang effect, the blue side is spectacular, clear
images of the ship (interior and exterior) and ports; the green side being
the itinerary and description of the cruise. On the green side is also a
special pouch containing the shore excursion program with photos and
prices. It’s the best cruise brochure I’ve seen for Aquitania. Excellent
condition. $75. |

|
21043 Aquitania Brochure

How and Why?” Showcases third class and all the upgrades made to market

see how the third-class dining room and lounge on Mauretania were updated.
Cover art is an odd amalgamation of different ships that I like to call the
“Berentania.” Very good condition. $45. |
|
 |
21109 Aquitania Brochure

Outstanding
color-coded plan of cabin accommodations for her as a Cunard White Star
liner. Dated April, 1936. Fifteen excellent photos. One of the last deck
plans showing the Grill Room before it was removed and converted to
tourist-class cabins. It is fascinating to compare this plan with earlier
ones, showing all the extensive modifications and alterations made to her
cabin layouts, especially the addition of many, many new private bathrooms.
One of the best deck plans I have ever seen for her. A bit of passenger
scribbling and some arithmetic. Otherwise in excellent condition. $115. |

sinking of the Lusitania and who saved second-class passenger Miss Barbara

de Bragance (Duchess of Oporto), future murder victim and tobacco heir Z.
Smith Reynolds (and his bother and sisters), to name just a few.

years old. It has the typical “pitting” to the applied painting seen on
almost all examples of this type of plate, but fortunately, it doesn’t
affect the ship much. Pre-WWI souvenirs for Cunard are getting tough to
find. $95. |

4998 Lusitania Salvaged Spoon
May 7, 1915. The great Cunard liner Lusitania
is struck by a single torpedo off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland. She
sinks in a mere 18 minutes with a loss of about 1,200 lives.
In 1982, a salvage firm conducted operations on the
wreck to retrieve any items of value they could find. Among the hundreds of
artifacts recovered was this spoon. On September 15, 1982, it was
discovered in the Specie Room on Orlop Deck after the salvagers cut into the
hull to recover valuables.
Although more than twenty years have passed since the
recovery of the artifacts, very few of the salvaged items have ever been
offered for public sale. Most are in museums or a few private collections
around the world. Here’s your chance to belong to that tiny number of ocean
liner collectors who own an item that sank with the Lusitania that
day.
These spoons were struck as a war premium (similar to
war bonds of World War II), the proceeds from their sale going to aid the
British war effort. A portrait of Britain’s Lord Kitchener is on the
handle, and despite its years on the sea floor, this spoon is in remarkable
condition. It measures 6” from handle to bowl.
Please note that only one (1) uncleaned spoon is being
offered. Among the additional photos is one that shows an identical spoon
as it looked after it had been cleaned.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to own something that
sank with the ship. As far as can be determined, this is only the
second time a spoon like this has been offered for public sale! $850
