Includes all the typical American Line passenger information and includes a fleet list.  As an added bonus, there are excellent fold-out maps of Manhattan, the Southampton docks in 1897, and the Atlantic Ocean.

A lovely full-color "funnels and flags" page, showing you how to tell all the major Atlantic steamship companies at a glance.

Unfortunately, the cover is missing, but so rare it probably doesn't matter.  If it had  its cover, this brochure would be the highlight of any American Line collection, but as it is, it's still a stunner, filled with images I've never seen before.  As is.  $95.

SOLD!

20112  American Line        Brochure

Fold-out brochure from about 1905.  Ships mentioned are the Haverford, Merion, and Friesland.

It's interesting that unlike Cunard and White Star, the American Line did not include information in their passenger lists such as the bill of fare, baggage handling, rental of deck chairs, etc. It was contained in a separate brochure like this one.  Superb graphics on cover.

32 pages with numerous illustrations.  Excellent condition.  $42.

32 pages with 16 full-page images, the majority being full color photos.  If these photos are tinted, they are so well done that they resemble the famous full-color photo series taken on the German four stackers during the same time period.

Circa 1901.  The brochure is absolutely stunning and showcases the beautiful interiors of these ships.  American Line and Red Star are represented however the focus is St. Louis, St. Paul, New York, and Philadelphia.  The interior of the brochure is near mint, but the cover has detached and is separating.  The rarest of the rare for the American Line!  $175.

NEW!

26035        American President Line           Carafe

As a hallmark of good service that can still be found on some ships today like QE2, when you order a drink like a gin and tonic, they bring you the gin over ice and your tonic in a separate carafe.  It's an extra step to be sure, but a very nice touch.  I suspect this small carafe was for something similar from one of the President's bar service.  Don't see too many items like this for any line.  Great frosted logo.  Stands over 3" tall.  Excellent condition.  $25.

12801        American President Line           Dinnerware, side plate

18291    Empress of Ireland/Empress of Britain               Brochure

24 pages with over 45 photos, many taken on the maiden voyage of the Empress of Ireland.  In the back is a Resolution to the captain and officers of the Empress of Ireland from leading passengers congratulating them on a successful maiden voyage.  Also included is an excellent stern view of the Ireland at dock, so clear you can read her name and see her stern anchor.  Too many pictures to list, but highlights include passengers on deck, at tea, the quartermaster at the wheel, an officer telephoning from the bridge, etc.  Covers first and second classes. All tied with a fancy cord.  Measures 7¼" x 5".  Near mint condition.  $395.

Presented below is a selection of china, silver, and glassware recovered from the wreck of the Empress of Ireland.  An outstanding opportunity for my Canadian Pacific collectors.
SOLD!

18964    Empress of Ireland               China

An outstanding example of her china that we rarely see.  An egg cup.  Standing 2" tall and 2" wide, the cup is cracked on the front (as can be seen in the photo), but a piece of such rarity, does it really matter?  A touch of crazing.  Happily free of the typical staining one sees on most recovered china.  $395.

18993    Empress of Ireland               China

A dinner plate, first class, measuring 9½" in diameter.  We know that Mintons dated their china by impressing a numeral into the underside of most pieces, but like other companies, not every piece has a date mark.  This plate has a "6" in a circle, which dates it to 1906, the time of her maiden voyage.  Very good condition with crazing as can be seen in the photos and the typical staining from decades under the St. Lawrence. Full Minton logo on the bottom.  $495.

18589    Empress of Ireland               China

Extremely delicate fine bone-china demi-tasse cup by Mintons.  Hold it to the light.  If the piece is translucent, it's bone china.  If you can read through it, wow!  The Canadian Pacific belted logo was apparently applied above the glaze and only its ghost remains.  You can see it when you tip it to the light.  Very good condition with crazing as can be seen in the photos and the typical staining from decades under the St. Lawrence.  Full Minton logo on the bottom.  $225.

SOLD!

18941    Empress of Ireland               China

Third-class soup plate, measuring 8" in diameter.  Has a crack at the 8 o'clock position and some other issues as can be seen in the photos.  Perhaps the third-class dining room was harder to reach for divers.  Whatever the reason, we see very little third-class china from the Empress of Ireland.  Full Minton logo on the bottom.  $250.

SOLD!

18837    Empress of Ireland               Glassware

Crystal dish measuring about 5" in diameter and standing over an inch deep.  Some hazing, no chips, cracks, etc.  $150.

18607    Empress of Ireland               Glassware

Crystal dish measuring about 5" in diameter and standing over an inch deep.  Some hazing, no chips, cracks, etc.  Was apparently "home" to some sea creature which left its spiral mark on the base.  $150.

18556    Empress of Ireland               Porcelain

A small ramekin measuring 2½" across and 1¼" deep, perhaps for a custard or crème bruleé.  Items like this are meant to withstand the high temperatures of an oven.  Bottom marked as made in France as are the ones recovered from Titanic.   Very slight chip and tiny hairline.  $95.

SOLD!

18654    Empress of Ireland               Silver

Small coffee pot that stands 6" tall and from handle to spout is 7" wide.  Made by Mappin and Webb and fully marked with the Canadian Pacific logo, this coffee pot is in very good condition considering its time under the sea!  Finial is slightly bent.  $475.

18500    Empress of Ireland               Silver

Elegant little creamer.  3½"tall and 5" from handle to spout.  $350.

18911    Empress of Ireland               Silver

Scallop-shaped silver bowl.  Apparently these were found nested on the bottom, and this one has a lot of the silver remaining.  Bottom marked Mappin and Webb and has the Canadian Pacific logo on the side.  $295.

SOLD!

23550    Empress of Scotland             Deck Plan

This plan covers first and tourist classes.  she was the fastest liner on the Pacific run at the time of her entry into service at 21 knots.  In those days, she was known as the Empress of Japan.  She was renamed Empress of Scotland in 1942 for obvious reasons!  In 1951, she carried Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) and Prince Philip on their return to the UK.  She was withdrawn from Canadian Pacific service in 1957.  Measures 38" x 35".  Printed on heavy-stock paper.  Definitely post war.  Excellent condition.  $30.

Furness Bermuda

23353    Monarch of Bermuda           Deck Plan

Color-coded plan dating to 1931, her entry into service.  She is listed as "new."  With 15 photos, the plan is printed on glossy paper, making the images quite clear.  Measures 40" x 33".  Swimming pool is interestingly named the "Caracalla Pool."  Sadly a 7" tear to one of the seams at the bottom, but otherwise in great condition.  Because of the tear this fantastic plan is priced at $75.

23555    Queen of Bermuda               Deck Plan

Dates November, 1959, this plan measures 36" x 23½".  Amazingly, all of her cabins have private facilities.  Quite something for a ship built in the 1930's!   Near mint.  $18.

4798    Furness Bermuda                   Dinnerware

A lovely example of Furness Bermuda china.  The pattern was registered in 1932, and speculation is that it was designed specifically for the liner Queen of Bermuda. Decorated with a bird and loads of flowers  filling nearly the entire surface of the creamer, this beautiful piece is in mint condition.  Made in England by Royal Dalton.  3½” high.  $28.
