Pre-maiden voyage brochure for the Doria.  She's listed as "fitting out."  The Colombo is not yet named and is listed as "Turbo Liner number 21".  Dated July, 1952.  This brochure has 16 pages with 25 photos and color renderings.  In near-mint condition.  $95.

22196  Andrea Doria/Cristoforo Colombo             Brochure

Fantastic 32-page brochure for the Doria and the Colombo packed with 58 photos, many in color and split about evenly between the two ships.  This is considered by many collectors to be the primo brochure for the sisters, covering both first and second classes.  This brochure is amazing!  In one of the photos, you can see the name "Italia" stamped into the deck chairs.  In another, you can see the name "Italia" woven into the linen napkins on the tables set for dinner.  When you get this brochure, you will not be disappointed!  In excellent condition.  $195.

Second-class bone-china side dish recovered from the Andrea Doria.  Measures about 7” in diameter.  Made by Ginori.   Italia logo as well as gold and blue stripes have faded  from its time on the bottom of the Atlantic.  No chips, cracks, or crazing.  Two available.  $235 each.

Silver dish recovered from the shattered wreck of the Andrea Doria.  What makes this piece so special is that it bears the pre-war Italian crown.  Considering its time on the bottom, it still retains much of its original silver plate.  Measures about 6¼” in diameter and stand almost 2” tall.  $375.

Dating to the late 1920's, this second-class brochure has very thoughtfully incorporated large N.G.I.-logoed "page markers" at the front and back covers.  Great cover showcasing the world's largest motor ship.  In French.  22 pages with 18 photos.  Very good condition.  $65.

22590   Augustus                               Brochure

24-page second-class brochure produced while she was under the N.G.I. house flag, dating it to before 1932.  20 photos.  Her second class was very inviting and included an outdoor pool.

This wonderful liner entered service in 1927 and was scuttled by the Germans in late 1944 in an effort to block the entrance to Genoa Harbor.  Very good condition with some scuffing and wear and a fold on one of the back corners.  $75

Beautiful International News photo of the Italian liner Augustus.  According to the blurb on the back of the photo, this is her first visit to New York, and she is docking without the aid of tugs!  That’s some New York welcome!  Measures 9” x 7”.  In excellent condition.  $28.

Beautiful graphics highlight this tourist-class passage contract for the February 18, 1961, sailing of the Cristoforo Colombo from New York to Genoa.  Mr. Dale Reed paid only $243.00 for his passage.  The ticket is in very good condition. $12.

22773   Leonardo da Vinci                  Book, Shipbuilder

Are you a da Vinci fan?  If so, then fasten your seatbelt!  This is as good as it gets! Original softcover version of her builder's book.  Running over 350 pages with hundreds of photos in both color and black and white.  Even some pictures of her engine spaces are in color!  Beyond what you would expect, and far superior image-wise to the English shipbuilders.  Including page after page of color-coded pullouts and hull plans so detailed the furniture is accurately placed.  Covers every aspect of the ship you can imagine.  There's so much, I can't list it all!

I only say this for those super rare items, but this is an item I am sorely tempted to put in my personal collection.  In Italian.  Excellent condition.  $345.

Packed with 33 photo, both exterior and interior, all very clear given the glossy paper.  In English and Italian.  Measures 31½" x 29".  February, 1961.  Did you know she had five outdoor swimming pools, including two for children?  An early plan for a ship whose life was cut short by fire in 1981.  Near mint.  $30.

Absolutely stunning book about the art on the Michelangelo and Raffaello.  100 pages with 143 photographs of the art on board the two liners, nearly all in color.  Not only illustrates all the art on board these two Italian superliners, there is also a complete listing of the art's location (Cabin, public room etc), the artist's name. the type of work , the subject, and the page it is illustrated on.  A few of these artists also did work on the Doria.

The book is happily ensconced in its original cover sleeve.  In English and in great condition.  Softcover.  Don't you wish we had something like this for the Doria?  $85.

Oversized luncheon menu from the Michelangelo.  Dated June 17, 1966, the cover of this menu is a detail of the painting “Conversion of Saul” from the Pauline Chapel at the Vatican.  This comes with a bonus of an additional insert for the “Atlantic Dinner” on June 19, 1966.  12½” x 9”.  In very good condition.  $12.

Interesting passenger list for the Mediterranean Festival Cruise of the Michelangelo on April 21, 1967.  What’s great about this list is that the second in command in Guido Badano, who was second officer on board the Andrea Doria when she sank!  Pull-out page with a map of the Atlantic on one side and a color chart showing how to recognize different officers on the other.  $18.

Incredible color-coded tissue plan for the Rex dated 1937.  Many feel that Rex and Conte di Savoia were Italy's crowning maritime achievements.  When open, it's huge, measuring a full 44" x 37".  Great condition with a very nice color-coded "guide plan" of the liner highlighting where the decks pictured are on the ship.  Just a few small holes here and there where the plan folds.  $185.

This brochure, with 12 pages and 8 magnificent photos of her under construction, predates her entry into service in 1926, lists her as the eighth largest ship in the world, curiously with Leviathan listed as the largest.  She was huge and helped to establish the "Southern Route".   Each photo is dated.  Great color rendering of her as she would appear. Super N.G.I. logo on the back.  In Italian.  "S.P.Q.R."  Very good condition.   $125.

This near-mint brochure runs 16 pages and has 10 photos and covers second class on board.  In Italian.  One of the finest ships ever built in Italy, this liner had a short life and was lost in 1945.  $60

As the obvious flag ship of N.G.I., they were justifiably proud of their palatial new liner.  This 32-page brochure from 1926 contains 11 photos and is in very good condition with a lovely embossed cover.  Includes a double page spread (a "centerfold" you might say) of this four-screwed liner.  Seems to have been translated from Italian as some of the text is a bit stilted.  In excellent condition.  $80.

Amazing brochure for these new additions to the Cosulich fleet.  Dating from the 1920's, including 28 pages with 27 interior and exterior images and renderings, mostly full page and a number in full color.  I can't describe what stunningly good photos these are!  It makes me want to sail on them!  These beloved liners lasted nearly 40 years.  Here is your chance to have the best and one of the first brochures produced for them.  $145.

Superb post-war brochure date December, 1954, for these two pre-war beauties!  Heavily redecorated, these lovely liners were the mainstay of Italia's post-war fleet until the advent of the post-war new builds.  14 pages with 31 interior and exterior images, several in color.  It's amazing to compare the pre-war interiors from the 1920's with the post-war remodel.  After the war, these ships had a soft form of Art Deco that reminds me very much of British pre-war liners. 

This is such a great brochure that, when I was offered two, I bought them both!  Two available @ $55.

Real photo card showing the extensively rebuilt Vulcania passing Gibraltar.  Postmarked 1962 in Lisbon.  Good condition with some corner bumping and a slight stain on the back which bleeds through to the sea on the front.  $12.

Lovely blue and white bed spread with a Greek key pattern border and a fantastic Cosulich logo woven into the center.  Probably dates to the 1920’s and may be from the service of the Saturnia or Vulcania.  Measures 67” x 42” (5½ feet x 3½ feet).  Near-mint condition.  Two available @ $250 each.

22810  Lloyd Sabaudo                                Bedspread

Exquisite white bed spread, dating to the late 1920’s or early 1930’s.  This could be from the Conte di Savoia or one of the other Conte ships.  Woven into the spread is a pattern of grape vines and leaves.  What makes this weaving so beautiful is that parts are raised to give it a 3-D quality.

Amazing large Lloyd Sabaudo belted logo in the center.  The blanket measures about 76” x 54” (about 6½ feet x 4½ feet).  In the edge are the words “Macherio.  Ditta Rivolta, Carmignani & Co.  Milano.”  Underneath that is “Di Aldo & Ugo Rivolta”

A few very small holes and some very small wear to the spread.  A few light stains.  This could possible be dry cleaned out, but I’ll leave that to you.  On the whole in excellent condition.  $195.

Very rare pre-World War I color rendering of a Winter Garden on board a liner of Lloyd Sabaudo.  Written on and postmarked September 27, 1911.  Good condition.  $14.

Pre-war fine-bone china crescent dish.  Date marked “3-39” (March, 1939).  In the very late 1930's Italian Line china was ordered in mass in an effort to consolidate the logos and patterns used onboard.  In excellent condition.  No chips, cracks, or crazing.  The gold is near mint.  Made by Ginori.  $195.
