nearly five years. She was scrapped in Italy in 1966. Measures 38" x 26" and is near mint. Ten illustrations.

17309 Bremen (1929)
Brochure Wow! One of the rarest books I've ever seen. "Die
Bremen Kehrt Heim" by Hanns Tschira. All about the Bremen's dash home
after the outbreak of World War Two. What is absolutely amazing is
that many of the 130 photos in the book were taken during that final
crossing. Among those included are the liner backing out of her pier
in NY with Normandie in the background, the German band and crew giving the
Nazi salute, an extreme close-up of her bow at full speed with the caption
"The Bremen disappears into the fog," many candid shots of the ship being
painted grey, a canister of benzine in the lounge "for an emergency" next to
a pile of oakum (perhaps they intended to burn her if capture was imminent)
and many, many others!
128 pages. Paperback. Printed in 1940. In German.
Rough spine, but otherwise in great condition. A superb opportunity
for one of you Bremen fans! $195. |
