38911 Empress of Australia
Photos Bedford
Lemere and Company were well-known architectural photographers who took some
of the best ship photos around. Fortunately for us, he documented Empress of
Australia in these ultra-crisp oversized photos. Note the Canadian Pacific
water pail next to the bed. Needless to say, these images would scan
amazingly. Each photo measures 9½” x 11½”. The bedroom photo is in
excellent condition with the slightest of bumped corners. The dining room
shot has 1½” tear on the right side. The pair $65. |

38881 Empress of Britain (1931)
Brochure, Pre-Maiden Voyage
There are brochures and then there are
BROCHURES. This entry-into-service example was produced for first-class on
the Empress of Britain prior to her maiden voyage and is dated 1931. It
refers to itself as a “preliminary presentation of the Empress of Britain.”
24 pages, it is completely in full color with much gold used. Many of
the illustrations run onto two pages. It’s not an exaggeration to say this is
the best brochure ever done for her. Each room shown has a description of the decor and the name of its
decorator. The best is saved for the center spread where the famous
painting of the ship by Shoesmith is seen. In excellent condition.
Grab it because this is as good as it gets for her. $495. |

ports, and 120 days. The brochure runs and extensive 56 pages with many

38922 Empress of Britain (1931)
Brochure Magnificent and huge
glossy deck plan for the Empress of Britain’s round-the-world cruise from
1932-1933. Filled with large clear photos of the ship and fully color
coded. Would frame amazingly. In excellent condition with only a few
small holes at the folds. You have to see this massive plan in person to
appreciate how nice it is. Reviewing the advertising for the various
liners making world cruises in the 1930's has lead me to believe that
Empress of Britain was by far the best option. They conducted LONG
140-150 day cruises with a new ship far more luxurious than their
competitors. I love the slogans used to advertise these cruises such
as "The whole world passes your door on seven seas street." Or
"Seven seas street, an address your friends will envy." Measures
about 41" x 50". Superb. $295. |

32751 Empress of Canada

1953.
This ashtray is in excellent condition with no loss of silver or damage
to the enamel. $35. |

China Extremely delicate fine bone-china demi-tasse cup by Mintons.
Hold it to the light. If the piece is translucent, it's bone china.

apparently applied above the glaze and only its ghost remains. You can
see it when you tip it to the light. Very
good condition with crazing as can be seen in the photos and the typical
staining from decades under the St. Lawrence. Full Minton logo on the
bottom. $225. |

38667 Empress of Japan
Souvenir Plate
Large souvenir plate
from the Empress of Japan’s on-board gift shop. The empress of of Japan
entered service in 1930, and quickly became, as this plate says, “The Queen of
the Pacific” due to her great size and speed (the idea was her speed would
cut two days off the travel time to the far east). Because of World War
II, in 1942 she
was re-named Empress of Scotland. Postwar Canadian Pacific did not restart
its Pacific service so Empress of Scotland carried on in the transatlantic
trade. Made by Royal Winton in England this plate is nearly square
measuring 9” x 9”. In very good condition with some crazing. $95. |
