38662    Mauretania (1907)                 Brochure

Perhaps the most lavishly illustrated brochure for first-class on the Mauretania I have ever seen.  Runs 24 pages with many full-page photos.  Among the unusual views seen are the details of the oak carving in the dining room, the tiny gift shop added to her vestibule, and the fireplace in the library.  Theses are crisp and would scan well.  Some of her “New Staterooms on B Deck” are, as one Mauretania researcher puts it, obvious forerunners of the Queen Mary's art deco style.  Near mint condition.  Dates to her later years.  $195.

Interestingly there are two large trophies on display in the ship.  One wonders what they were for.  Does anyone out there know?

33006    Mauretania (1907)                 Cigarette Card

Full-color Wills cigarette card for the Mauretania.  This one dates to the pre-WWI period because the back mentions that she will soon be eclipsed by the "White Star liners Olympic and Titanic now building 1911."  Excellent condition with some slight bumping to corners.  $20.

33444    Mauretania (1907)                 Cigarette Card

Post-war cigarette card by Wills from their "Merchant Ships of the World" series, which I believe was done in 1924.  She is still listed as the fastest ship in the world.  Very good condition.  $10.

SOLD!

38113    Mauretania (1907)                 Deck Plan

Huge fold-open color-coded deck plan and rates for Mauretania’s February 21, 1928, Mediterranean cruise.  Folds out to about 44" x 33".  A few on-board photos in this color-coded deck plan. Very interesting plan because it shows in detail the upgrades and modifications made to her, including the addition of many private baths.  In very good condition with the typical wear and tears at the folds.  One long tear that measures about 4".  $150.

38292    Mauretania (1907)                 Pin

Mauretania celluloid pin sold by the American Baptist Publication Society.  Perhaps the society took a crossing on Mauretania?  More likely they were riding the publicity coat tails of the fastest ship in the world to raise funds.  Excellent condition.  Measures ½”.  $25.

33503  Mauretania (1907)                    Post Card

Famous photographic post card of Mauretania in her diamond-shaped dazzle scheme.  One of several she sported during the war.  Crawling with troops (they're even standing on top of the wireless cabin).  Unused and in excellent condition with one dog-eared corner.  $75.

33001  Mauretania (1907)                    Post Card

I've been informed that this specially produced nighttime photo card is a doctored version of a daytime view.  Notice the crescent moon is "backwards."  This photo was originally taken September 17th, 1907 as Mauretania was heading towards the sea and away from her builders yard.  Posted July 27, 1917, with a family message on the back.  Slight bumping to the edges and the corners.  $35.

15876R   Mauretania (1907)                  Post Card

Sepia rendering of Mauretania.  Written on and postmarked July 29, 1909.  Fair condition.  $5.

SOLD!

38279  Mauretania (1907)                       The Shipbuilder

Her "bible" if you will.  The special edition of The Shipbuilder magazine.  Only the most important ships got their own special hard-backed edition of this magazine.  Covers all things Mauretania in great detail.  Have a specific question?  Need to know a technical detail?  Wish you had plans, side elevations, and specs?  There is nothing like the original.  It has a quality that a reprint just cannot touch.  The color plates alone are quite impressive.  If you are a model maker or researcher you need this book.  In excellent condition with some slight loosening at the spine although contents still tight.  I mention this only to be complete.  Some slight scuffing to covers.  $395.

SOLD!

38394  Mauretania (1907)                       Tin

Super rare Cadbury candy tin for Mauretania with a fairly accurate full-color portrait of the ship.  No, there is no candy in it!  The condition of the portrait is very good with only slight crazing and a couple of slight scratches.  The tin itself is almost completely free of rust.  Which is unusual for tins of this age.  All in all excellent condition for something that’s most likely 100 years old.  Measures 3½” in diameter.  $195.

38907   Mauretania (1907)                   Woodwork, Cigarette Box

Rarely seen cedar-lined cigarette box made from oak taken from the Mauretania.  Like all her treen this was produced in the mid 1930's from her timbers to be sold as souvenirs.  Measures 7¾” x 4”.  In near mint condition.  $225.

I have one of these boxes in my personal collection.  I find they are very handy to keep cruise ship ID cards in (makes a nice record of your voyages).  It also looks good on a desk or bookcase.

33234   Mauretania (1907)                   Woodwork, Cigarette/Match holder

Beautiful Deco styling on this piece made from her pine decking.  Still has its original match striker on the side.  Unfortunately, doesn't come with any smokes.  In fantastic condition.  Stands 2½" tall and is 3½" across.  One of the more uncommon items made from her.  $95.

SOLD!

38246   Mauretania (1907)                   Woodwork, Letter Holder

Letter holder made from the decking of Mauretania.  A charming image of the ship carved on front in folk art style.  The carvers who made these treen items were not the skilled Palestinians brought in to build Mauretania in 1907 but rather by folks made redundant in the depression and or too old to shipbreak.  In excellent condition with its original felt on the base.  Organize your desk with help from Mauretania.  Measures 5” x 3¾”.  $175.

38935   Mauretania (1907)                   Woodwork, Ashtray

Ashtray made from Mauretania.  Rumor has it that the copper insert was made from the tubing from the great ship's condensers.  The copper was valuable and could be sold off for cash; however, copper would then have to be bought back to make these ashtrays.  I can see both sides of that argument.  Given the frugal nature and tendency to re-use things in depression-era England, I think it’s highly probable that the rumors might be true.  In excellent condition.  Measures 3½” in diameter.  $125.

33896   Mauretania (1907)                   Woodwork

An unusual piece, possibly a pencil holder as so many different items were made for desk sets.  Stands about 3½" tall.  Hand made from her pine decking.  Excellent condition with some scuffs and bumps.  $45.

33567   Mauretania (1907)                   Woodwork, Candlesticks

Wonderful pair of candlesticks made from the teak handrail of the Mauretania.  Standing 8" tall, these are in excellent condition. One candlestick has a plaque from Hughes, Bolckow Shipbreaking Co. in Blyth, Northumberland, attesting to their origin.  Just imagine gracing your table with the ship that held the Blue Ribband for 22 years!  I have only ever seen 4 pairs of these including the set I own personally.  A set of these reside in the Discovery Museum in the UK.  Own a legitimate museum piece.  $275.

SOLD!

38947   Mauretania (1939)                   Bell

Fantastic brass bell made from metal salvaged from the second Mauretania at the time of her scrapping late in 1965.  Here is your chance to own a piece of her.  Cunard saved little from their ships sent to the scrap heap in the 1960's.  Which is sad considering what a mass exodus the fleet endured during those years.  Extremely well made weighing in at about 8½ pounds!  Measures about 8" x 6¾".  In excellent condition with a nice clear ring.  I have not polished it leaving that to the new owner should they so desire.  It would gleam with a good polishing though. Super rare.  $495.

SOLD!

38055   Mauretania (1939)                   Brochure

I think it's safe to say that this is the best brochure ever done for the second Mauretania.  Dating from the time of her maiden voyage, this brochure runs 24 pages with each photo covering a full page and all of the illustrated art in full color.  There is a fantastic color foldout of the new ship on the first page.  All three classes are shown, including cabins and public rooms.  In my opinion, Mauretania was the high-water-mark of Cunard’s art deco design.  Her interiors incorporate all the lessons learned on the Queen Mary but have none of the softer deco look used on the Queen Elizabeth.  Tied with a ribbon and sporting an embossed cover.   In excellent condition with some wear to the spine and bumped corners on the cover.  $195.

SOLD!

38942   Mauretania (1939)                   Brochure

“Everyday is a holiday on the Mauretania!”  Glossy brochure for her 1961 West Indies and South America cruise.  Printed in September, 1960.  This is your typical post-war Cunard cruise brochure full of photos including many in color for both the ship and her destinations.  Fully 16 shots on or of the ship.  Full rates in the back.  Mint condition.  Comes to us from the Frank Braynard collection.  $35.

SOLD!

Original press photo dated March, 31, 1939, or Mauretania being fitted out.  Has a Paris press stamp.  Blurb on back is in French.  Measures 7" x 5".  Very good condition with some waviness because of the glue on the press blurb on the back.  $30.

SOLD!

33859    Mauretania (1939)                 Photograph

Very sad photo of her during the scrapping process.  Stamped on back Thomas W. Ward., Ltd.  The forward funnel has been cut in half.  Measures 8"x 10"  Very good condition.  $50.

38599  Mauretania (1939)                 Pin, Stratton

38139  Mauretania (1939)                 Souvenir, Celluloid Box

Cunard's favorite gift shop item, the celluloid cigarette box.  These were produced for all the ships in the post-war era and, surprisingly enough, for a few years pre war.  No ships escaped being so memorialized including the Georgic which was strictly on austerity service.  Sold on-board, these only fit non-filtered smokes.  Excellent condition.  Measures 3” x 3½”.  $95.

38799  Mauretania (1939)                 Souvenir, Spoon

Silver souvenir spoon as sold on board the second Mauretania.  Happily, no damage to the double house flag logo or loss of silver.  Great condition.  Measures about 4¾" in length.  $65.

33646  Mauretania (1939)                 Souvenir

For those (like myself) trying to rebuild the Cunard onboard gift shop in your home, here is an oddity.  Wooden barrel pen and pencil holder.  Happily comes with both its original floaty Mauretania pencil (the ship has a black hull) and pencil (the ship is in her short-lived green phase).  Excellent condition.  Never seen another.  $75.

13274  Parthia                                      Photograph

An original photo for the Parthia.  10” x 8”.  Statistics on the reverse.  Excellent condition.  $14.

SOLD!

29216    Queen Elizabeth                   Deck Plan

First-class, full-color plan, dated December, 1954.  Measures  44" x 9".  Eight color images.  Great "QE" logo inside a trident.  Printed on glossy paper.  This is considered by many to be the best plan done for her.  Get it while you can as I have trouble keeping these in stock.  Very good condition.  $45.

SOLD!

29199    Queen Elizabeth                   Deck Plan

Fantastic full-color first-class plan from the 1960's.  Great 3-D rendering of a cabin.  18 color interior and exterior images.  The glossy pages and happy "passengers/models" in the photos make this plan nearly as nice as any other done for her.  Near mint.  $25.

30696    Queen Elizabeth                  Pencil

Cunard White Star souvenir mechanical pencil.  Still works and has its original lead.  In very good condition.  $45.

30354    Queen Elizabeth                  Photograph

Original Daily Telegraph photo dating from the 1960's of a Cunard window display.  Note the photo in the background of the QE passing a palm tree in the background.  That's definitely not Southampton Water!  Measures 11½" x 9½".  Excellent condition.  $15.

30310    Queen Elizabeth                  Photograph

Original Stuart Bale photo of the first-class Writing Room on the Queen Elizabeth.  Crystal clear image.  Measures about 11" x 9".  Stuart Bale stamp on back and embossed with Stuart Bale's name on front lower right edge.  Mint condition.  $20.

Original Stuart Bale photo of the Cabin Class Gym on the QE.  Crystal clear image of the same type of equipment used on Titanic (and every other liner's gym).  Measures about 11" x 9".  Stuart Bale stamp on back and embossed with Stuart Bale's name on front lower right edge.  Mint condition.  $20.

30470    Queen Elizabeth                  Pin

Beautiful enameled Stratton style lapel pin in the shape of the QE.  Great condition.  No loss of enamel and no cracks.  Measures about 1½" in length.  Wear it to your next event.  $45.

SOLD!

30706    Queen Elizabeth                  Pin Tray

Exceptionally rare original construction plan for the Card Room and Writing Room on the Queen Elizabeth.  Lots of detail. The plan even includes the wattage for the lights.  Mint condition.  Measures 24" x 23".  Would be fantastic framed!  See item 30310 above for a Stuart Bale photo of this room on board.  $145.

30045    Queen Elizabeth                  Shoe Horn

What a unique item from her gift shop.  I had to wonder, when I saw this, who would take a transatlantic crossing and come home with a souvenir shoe horn?  Oh, well....  In great condition with a fine leather sleeve.  $25.

SOLD!

30552    Queen Elizabeth                  Spoon, Souvenir

Silver souvenir spoon.  Happily, no damage to the double house flag logo.  Great condition.  Measures about 4¾" in length.  $65.

28290    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Booklet, Crew Sanitation

Dated April, 1986.  This 24-page booklet describes the measures taken on board for general hygiene and sanitation.  Illustrated with crudely drawn cartoons -- some are almost comical!  Cunard at the height of the Trafalgar era.  Not likely to find this anywhere else!  $20.

SOLD!

40401    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Brochure

One of her earliest brochures.  Runs 32 pages and sports several illustrations including a cutaway.  Highlights three officers and gives a bit about their careers and backgrounds.  The officers are William Warwick, Hotel Manager James R. Smith, and Chief Engineer Donald Wilson.  Included is her 1969 sailing schedule, and as we all know, she made none of the voyages listed prior to the May maiden voyage.  A fare list in the back.  The best part is the great slogan Cunard came up with "Ships have been boring long enough!".  In very good condition.  $45.

SOLD!

40652    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Brochure

"QE2. The great one between London and New York.  We don't think that there are any words equal to describing just why QE2 is so sensational."

Interesting full-color foldout that is a mosaic of images of life onboard.  We are talking dozens of photos.  In excellent condition.  $35.

NEW!

40110    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Compact, Stratton

This is the first time I can say I have sold a Stratton compact still in its original box.  Also comes with its original powder!  I like the enamel cover sporting a portrait of our favorite liner.  In excellent condition with some slight spotting to the mirror and some use marks on the enamel.  $85.

NEW!

40119    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Deck Plan

Preliminary deck plans for the QE2, dated July, 1968, nearly one year before she entered service.  Printed front and back, these show her original payout before any modifications were done to her.  One of the changes that I was always sorry Cunard made was the removal of the Lookout Bar. When open, the plan measures about 33" x 24".  In excellent condition.  $35.

NEW!

40222    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Deck Plan

Explore one of the coolest ocean liners ever built.  This deck plan is just about as close as you can get now days to walking her decks.  These are the deck plans produced from her earliest days in service.  They stopped using this type of plan in the early 1980's.  When open, it measures 24½" x 18½".  In excellent condition.  I have a few of these available, all dating tot he 1970's.  $15 each.

28561    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Medallion, 1987 Maiden Voyage

28549    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Passenger List

This passenger list comes from an era Cunard was still supplying us with passenger lists.  For her 94-day, 38,000-mile 1983 Circle Pacific and Orient Odyssey.  John Duffy is listed as hotel manager, and he stayed with her until her arrival in Dubai.  Extremely large list measuring 12" x 8".  Excellent condition.  $18.

28592    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Photo

Wonderful stern view as she makes her passage down the Clyde from the builder's yard.  7" x 5".  Excellent condition.  $10.

28811    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Photo

28777    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Photo

Aerial view of QE2 departing for a cruise to Israel.  The blurb on the back tells us that only 580 passengers were on board, mostly Jews from the U.S.  This cruise was to celebrate Passover and the 25th anniversary of Israel.  12 marine commandos were on board to deal with any terrorism attempts.  Measures 10" x 8".  Very clear.  $10.

40563    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Pin

I have trouble keeping these in stock as QE2 is so popular.  Everyone digs these wheel lapel pins especially the ones that sport the original QE2 logo.  I get asked about these pins when I wear them on QM2 more than any other type of liner pin.  $85.

NEW!

40862    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Pin

The same as above only in blue.  As mentioned above, I have trouble keeping these in stock as QE2 is so popular.  Everyone digs these wheel lapel pins especially the ones that sport the original QE2 logo.  I get asked about these pins when I wear them on QM2 more than any other type of liner pin.  $85.

40067    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Pin Tray

Back in 1969, Cunard was still producing really great items for the gift shop.  Nothing made in China in sight!  What is cool about this tray is she is listed as "RMS" and dates to her earliest days.  Made by Staffordshire out of fine bone china.  In excellent condition.  $40.

NEW!

40997    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Pin Tray

Very early aluminum pin tray with her earliest QE2 logo.  She is listed as RMS.  Wasn't she gorgeous in her original configuration?  Some slight scuffing to the aluminum which doesn't really detract.  Measures about 6" square.  $40.

28361    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Shot Glass

These were among the best souvenir items offered on QE2's recent final cruises and crossings.  Available at any bar, these shot glasses sport the official Farewell logo.  $25.

NEW!

40650    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Silver, Hot Water Jug

Large silver hot-water jug from the original service of the QE2.  I really dig the pattern chosen in 1969.  Has shades of Normandie about it.  Stands about 4½" tall and hold 20 oz.  Lots of the typical use dings.  No dents or loss of plate.  $65.

SOLD!

40330    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Silver, Salt and Pepper Shakers

Pair of salt and pepper shakers.  When QE2 was commission, all of her china and silver was specially designed for her although a lot of the larger silver pieces (serving trays, syrup servers, chafing dishes, etc.) were transferred to her from the old Queens.  I've talked to people who traveled on QE2, and as late as the 1980's, were served on White Star silver.  Great condition.  $50.

SOLD!

40964    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Souvenir Dish

I'm not sure exactly what this was used for, but it's a great shape and design.  Made from bone china.  Dates to her earliest years as she is still shown in her original configuration with no added suites up above.  Measures about 7" x 4½".  Near-mint condition with no chips, cracks, crazing, or loss of gold.  $55.

28100    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Table Reservation Card

Unused reservation card for the Tables of the World Restaurant.  Mint.  $2.

28681    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Turbine Blade

What a conversation piece!  This large piece of turbine blading stands 6½" tall and shows the end where the blade attached to the rotor.  Very unusual.  Comes with a certificate of authenticity.  In the gift shop on board QE2, there was an entire turbine blade mounted on a wooden stand.  The price was $1,500!  This can be yours for $225.

NEW!

40140    Queen Elizabeth 2                   Whiskey Bottle

15 to 20 years ago, you could buy these small ceramic pitchers on board QE2 with what amounted to a large individual serving of Scotch.  Happily, this still contains its adult beverage.  Stands 3" tall.  $25.
