Miscellaneous

30201      Arkadia                                        Butter Knife, Souvenir

By the 1950's, ship-building costs had been inflated so much that you start to see a serious market for prime second-hand tonnage.  Built in 1931 as the Monarch of Bermuda, she was bought in 1958 by the Greek Line and renamed Arkadia.  Measures just over 5".  Absolutely mint.  $40.

30609      Neptunia                                     Lifering, Souvenir

Having been built in the 1920's for a Dutch concern, she had a strikingly modern profile after her rebuilding in 1948 for the Greek Line.  This souvenir life ring with a real photo of the ship inserted.  Made of wood, not plastic.  Very good condition with some flaking to paint around the edges.  Measures 5" in diameter.  $30.

30716      New York                                     Pocket Knife

The Greek Line's first ship, originally built as the Anchor liner Tuscania, she was acquired by the Greek Line in 1939.  Originally named Nea Hellas, she was renamed New York in 1955.  Withdrawn from service in 1959.  Excellent condition with no rust or damage.  $40.

30551      New York                                     Lighter

Great lighter for the Greek Lines New York.  Does not strike, but a good cleaning might fix that.  In very good condition.  Where do you see items like this?  $35.

30753      Olympia                                        Bell

The Greek Line was making their presence felt in a big way by the 1950's, especially with ships like the Olympia.  Modern, fully air conditioned, and beloved, she sailed for a full 56 years being being retired a few weeks ago.  She is now sadly on her way to the scrappers.  Stands just over 3½" tall.  Excellent condition with some slight wear to the brass but could easily be polished.  No chipping or cracking to the enamel.  $45.

SOLD!

30992      Olympia                                         Pin Tray

If you're like me, you're interested in the twilight of transatlantic liners.  One of the last classic liners to remain in service, she was extremely popular in her many reincarnations, the final being Regal Empress of Imperial Majesty.  Happily, this Italian made plastic pin tray, most likely dating to the 1960's is in mint condition and has a wire hanger on the back.  Measures 6" x 4".  $40.

30123      Queen Anna Maria                      Spoon, Souvenir

One of the finest ships to come out of the 1950's was Canadian Pacific's Empress of Britain, which became the Greek Line's Queen Anna Maria.  Silver souvenir spoon in mint condition.  No loss of plate or damage to the enamel.  Measures 4½".  $40.

30919      Greek Line                                     Ashtray

23911      Hanseatic                                     Deck Plan
