43425 Bremen (1929) Brochure

best for this famed record breaker. 18 pages with 29 interior and
exterior photos. Lots I've never seen before. Great cover
showing the state of the art sea plane used to get mail off the ship as she
approached NYC. Very cutting edge for 1930. Brochure is tied
with a fancy cord. In excellent condition but has a little wear around
the edges. $225. |

35950 Bremen (1957) & Europa (1965)
Brochure
Great full-color brochure for the ex-Pasteur (bought by NDL in
1959 and renamed Bremen) and the ex-Gripsholm (bought by NDL in 1965 and
renamed Europa). The brochure dates to between 1965 and 1970, when the old
rivals HAPAG and NDL merged, and runs 22 pages with lots of photos. If I
were pressed I would say the brochure is 1965 and not later due to the entry
into service that year of Europa. They were proud to have a pair of ships
running aging with those names. Mint
condition. $50.

|

on-board gift shop of the Bremen. In excellent condition.
Oktoberfest anyone?

35001 Columbus Brochure Very rare 48-page brochure for first and second class.
Text in German. Far too many photos to list (there are 42 of them!), but
some highlights are the bridge, a boiler room, the radio cabin on one of her
lifeboats, the main staircase, bathroom of a suite, the gymnasium, a corner of
the second-class dining room, to name only a few. Many of these images are
full page. One of the best brochures ever done for her. Some fading
to cover but inside is perfect. Tied with a cord. Not something you are
likely to run across elsewhere. $265. |
|

 |
43691 Columbus Deck Plan Huge,
rare fold-open deck plan for Columbus's Raymond Whitcomb Round South America
cruise of 1937.
Happier days for the liner because she was scuttled
by her crew early during WWII to avoid capture by the British.
Printed on glossy paper, the deck plan is color coded and has a complete
schedule of rates for the cruise. When open measures about 42" x 32".
Some very small pin holes where the paper is folded, but otherwise in excellent
condition. $165. |
|

 |
35870 Columbus Photos Three
fantastic snapshots of Columbus. She really looked sleek compared with her
sister Homeric. The extra deck that was never added gave Columbus a low
profile. Measures over 4" x 3". These would scan extremely well.
$50 for the set. |
|
 |
35234 Columbus Post Card

 |
43654 Europa (1930) Brochure
/ Commemorating Her 100th Crossing Super eight-page brochure
produced to commemorate the Europa's 100th round trip on August 3, 1935.
By that time Europa had sailed "four times the distance from the earth to the
moon...." Contains an interesting portrait
of Jacob Gould Schurman (who launched the liner) that hung on Europa. One wonders when the Nazis
forced NDL to take it down. Schurman had been the American ambassador to
Germany in the 1920's. Excellent condition with some photos. $65. |
|
 |
35492 Europa (1930) Christmas Card Unusual Christmas card for the Europa, dating

43367 Europa (1930) Menu
An extensive à la carte luncheon menu for the Europa dated Saturday,
December 19, 1931. In English and German.

be lovely framed. Has some bending to one corner. $25. |

|
43193 Europa (1930) Menu Dated
August 28, 1934, this à la carte lunch menu has a great painting of the Europa passing another NDL
liner. Note the crowds of people the artist has lining the rails.
NDL would have been thrilled during the depression to have their ships so full! Very good condition with a slight tear at the spine and bit of
something on the back cover. $25. |
|
NEW!
 |
43081 Europa (1930) Menu
Evocative cover art.... An "Abschieds-Essen" (or Farewell Dinner)
menu dated September 14, 1934. Nowadays you get a fake leather booklet
made in China and a poorly printed menu dictated by the head office swapped out
daily. Don't let the corporate cost cutting get you down, though.
Going on a Cunard crossing is still the only way to go to Europe. Who
wants to be packed into coach for hours on end with no sleep? In the
meantime, go back to the good old days with this menu from one of Germany's
finest liners. Excellent condition. $25. |
|
I have a large selection of menus from the Bremen and Europa. If
there is a particular date or cover you want, let me know, and I'll see if I
have it. |

 |
43557 Europa (1930) Post Cards Great
set of six real-photo interior cards for the German greyhound Europa. The

was being produced in France and the UK at the time. I think I like it!
All are unused and in great condition. These would scan amazingly well.
$60. |

large too at over 11" x 8". Date on the inside 8/1934. Excellent.

 |
35441 Kaiser Wilhelm II
Brochure The best brochure I have ever seen for this rare
German liner, which was
the third of NDL's four stackers and which held the Blue Ribbon for a short
time. Judging by the text, this is probably an entry-into-service
brochure. NDL was obviously very proud. Every single image is
covered by a piece of tissue paper that explains what we see in the photo, and
each photo is a full page. Brochure measures over 7" x 5" and runs 36
pages (including those tissue pages with text) and has 16 photos. This
brochure is simply amazing! Slightly faded cover but otherwise near mint.
Tied with a cord. $325. |

from her November 3, 1903, Bremen to New York crossing. First and second
class. Very full list with lots of servants on board! Complete list
of officers and a sailing schedule. In excellent condition with great
cover art. The back shows the ship in full color at sea. Fantastic. $50. |

|
43561 Peer Gynt
Brochure What an interesting life this ship had. Built in
1913 by Vulkan's in Bremen for NDL, she was originally named Sierra Salvada.
Commandeered by the Brazilians in 1917, she was bought back by the Germans in
1923. At this point she was renamed Peer Gynt. Eventually, she ended
up in the KDF fleet as the Oceana, their smallest and oldest ship at only 9,000
tons. After the war she was turned over the British and then the Russians.
This fascinating brochure is for liner we see nothing for at all. Most
of the brochure is about the ports she visited during her cruise to India from
October 18 to December 18, 1925. Several pages have interior photos,
however. The bonus is the tissue foldout deck plan in the back of the
brochure. Some water staining on cover and slight damage to the spine.
Also some tears to where the deck plan attaches to the spine which does not
detract from the plan or go anywhere into the ships layout $95. |

43930 Norddeutscher Lloyd
Ashtray The post WWII resumption of passenger service was major
even in the history of NDL. Long delayed by the war and allied
restrictions, the Germans did not get back into transatlantic liner service
until 1955. This pin dish dates from that era and was sold in the onpboard
gift shops. Measures about 3½" square and in excellent condition.
$25. |

 |
43211 Norddeutscher Lloyd Brochure for
Bremen, Europa, and Columbus Stunning brochure covering NDL's
Bremen, Europa, and Columbus. Printed in February, 1932, which was the
height of NDL's post-war surge. Bremen and Europa were the fastest and
most-modern ships in the world, but not for long, as Italia's Rex was building
as this brochure was being printed. Runs 20 pages and sports 18 mostly
full-page photos. Here is the best part -- this brochure is as near to
mint as can be. Only the slightest scuffing to the edges and corners;
otherwise, it looks like just came off the rack in the travel agency. |

 |
43165 Norddeutscher Lloyd Brochure
for Bremen, Europa, and Columbus Those precise Germans seem to have
thoughtfully dated nearly all of their paperwork, which is handy for us today.
This one is dated June 30, 1934, and sports 17 images on 14 glossy pages so will
scan magnificently. They had interesting interiors that reflect Germany of
the late 1920's. Very clean and with touches of art deco creeping in. Near
mint. $95. |

mostly full-page images on glossy paper. Not too much is seen for the
lower classes on these three liners. $85. |

Cup and Saucer Fantastic demi-tasse cup and saucer in a very
high-quality bone china. From the pattern as used on the Bremen in the

1938. Don't you just love it when the china is thoughtfully dated for us
collectors? Mint condition. $185. |
|
 |
35740 Norddeutscher Lloyd China, Egg Cup Every
ocean-liner company had to have egg cups, and they are quite collectible these
days. These examples from the Bremen are no exception. Stands about
2" tall and in perfect condition. Dates to the 1930's. $125. |
|

 |
35275 Norddeutscher Lloyd China, Sauce Dish Dating

in Bavaria in this case by Bauscher Weiden. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks,
or crazing. $65. |
