35194   Bremen (1929) & Europa (1930)                      Brochure

I pride myself on bringing you rare and hard to find items, and this brochure definitely fits the bill!  Just about the best brochure you can get for these two German beauties.  Filled with facts and figures about them, including their record-breaking crossings and passenger loads. Dating to June of 1933, it runs 32 pages with 39 photos, most of which are quite large and none of which I have seen before, including one of the sea plane being launched.  Brochure is in near-mint condition.  Text in English.  $275.

SOLD!

35402   Bremen (1929) & Europa (1930)                      Brochure

"Queens of the Seas" is the title of this absolutely stunning glossy photo brochure for Bremen, Europa, and Columbus.  Runs 16 pages with 28 photos.  Dates from the mid-1930's and shows all kinds of "odd" views of the liners, which I like, including the shopping mall on the Europa.

It measures about 10" x 12".  In German.  It really doesn't translate well, but the brochure calls them the "Wind Dogs of the Oceans."  I've never seen another.  Some bumped edges and a touch of dirt on the cover but otherwise excellent.  $185.

NEW!

35104   Bremen (1929)                      Business Card for Captain

One of the more unusual items I have offered is this business card for Captain Ziegenbein of the 1929 Bremen. A classy card in that all it says is Captain of the fast ship Bremen.  What needs to be said?  Excellent condition.  $35.

23778   Bremen (1929)                      Deck Plan

An early tissue plan for tourist and third class dating to June, 1930.  Measures 59" x 18".  Some passenger notes written in pencil, otherwise, very good condition.  $65.

NEW!

35981   Bremen (1929)                      Post Card

Superb postcard of Bremen racing past a light house.  One of my favorite ocean-liner advertising images.  The ship looks like she is about to leap out of the water!  Excellent condition.  $10.

NEW!

35902   Bremen (1929)                      Post Card

Super stern view of the Bremen.  Real photo.  Take a look at the clarity of the image.  Great foam in the water in the foreground.  I wish an artist could paint this scene in color for us.  Excellent condition and unused.  $25.

SOLD!

35701   Bremen (1929)                      Post Card

Interesting close-up of her name and flag flying on the stern.  Must be early because it's not a Nazi flag.  Large crowds on the dock.  She must be getting ready to sail.  Very clear.  Excellent condition and unused.  $25.

SOLD!

35228   Bremen (1929)                      Writing Paper

A single sheet of unused stationery for the Bremen.  Great NDL logo at the top with the ship's name.  Had been folded.  $15.

NEW!

35428    Bremen (1957)                     Baggage Tag

17398    Bremen (1957)                     Book

Sixty-eight-page book about the former French liner Pasteur.  In English and German.  10 illustrations.  Mint condition.  $30.

NEW!

35950    Bremen (1957) & Europa (1965)                     Brochure

Great full-color brochure for the ex-Pasteur (bought by NDL in 1959 and renamed Bremen) and the ex-Gripsholm (bought by NDL in 1965 and renamed Europa).  The brochure dates to between 1965 and 1970, when the old rivals HAPAG and NDL merged, and runs 22 pages with lots of photos.  If I were pressed I would say the brochure is 1965 and not later due to the entry into service that year of Europa.  They were proud to have a pair of ships running aging with those names.  Mint condition.  $50.

NEW!

35710    Bremen (1957)                     Cup and Saucer, Souvenir

Lots of gold on this souvenir demi-tasse cup and saucer from the on-board gift shop of the ex-Pasteur.  Probably dates to the 1960's.  Made in Germany with a hand-painted image of the Bremen inside the cup.  In excellent condition with no loss of gold.  $45.

NEW!

35206    Bremen (1957)                     Stein, Souvenir

When I think of a German beer stein, this is the look that pops into my head.  Steins like this were and probably still are a "required" purchase for anyone who visits Germany. Stands about 9" tall and 5" from handle to front.  From the on-board gift shop of the Bremen.  In excellent condition.  $85.

35600    Bremen (1957)                     Stein, Souvenir

Souvenir stein as sold in the on-board gift shop.  Marked "Made in West Germany" on the base.  Holds half a liter and stands about 5½" tall and is 5" from handle to front.  In excellent condition with no chips or cracks.  Oktoberfest anyone?  $50.

NEW!

35001   Columbus                              Brochure

Very rare 48-page brochure for first and second class.  Text in German.  Far too many photos to list (there are 42 of them!), but some highlights are the bridge, a boiler room, the radio cabin on one of her lifeboats, the main staircase, bathroom of a suite, the gymnasium, a corner of the second-class dining room, to name only a few.  Many of these images are full page.  One of the best brochures ever done for her.  Some fading to cover but inside is perfect. Tied with a cord.  Not something you are likely to run across elsewhere.  $265.

NEW!

35870   Columbus                      Photos

Three fantastic snapshots of Columbus.  She really looked sleek compared with her sister Homeric.  The extra deck that was never added gave Columbus a low profile.  Measures over 4" x 3".  These would scan extremely well.  $50 for the set.

NEW!

35234   Columbus                      Post Card

Real photo postcard of Columbus's first class lounge.   Interesting to compare it with Homeric's.  Excellent condition and unused.  $15..

NEW!

35492   Europa (1930)                      Christmas Card

Unusual Christmas card for the Europa, dating from the 1930's.  Used with a personal note written inside.  Otherwise mint.  Not a commonly seen item!  $45.

29355   Europa (1930)                       Deck Plan

A third-class plan measuring 48" x 18" and dated September 1, 1930, from her entry into service.  In very good condition with a slight tear at one of the folds.  One of NDL's most famous ships!  She lead a very interesting long life becoming the Liberte.  $75.

SOLD!

35135   Europa (1930)                       Menu

Dated December 18, 1931, this lunch menu is more than likely for first class judging by the extensive hors-d'oeuvre selection.  Great painting of the Europa passing another NDL liner.  Very good condition.  $12.

NEW!

35432   Europa (1930)                      Post Card

Powerful real photo postcard of Europa in dock.  Impressive!  Unused and in excellent condition.  $25.

SOLD!

35631   Grosser Kurfürst                       Ticket and Wallet from Maiden Voyage

Although these ticket wallets are fairly common, this one is in much better condition than generally seen.  What makes this wallet special is that it still has it's original ticket in side.  What makes that ticket special is that it is for her maiden voyage of May 5, 1900.  It is a third-class ticket issued to 15-year-old Peter Reichel.  There is some separating at the folds although it is in generally good condition with a great NDL key stamp on it.

The Grosser Kurfürst had a long career during which she helped rescue the survivors of the Volturno.  She was seized by the US government on April 6, 1917, and renamed Aeolus.  After the war, she became LASSCO's City of Los Angeles and was scrapped in late 1930's.  $95.

SOLD!

35441   Kaiser Wilhelm II                 Brochure

The best brochure I have ever seen for this rare German liner, which was the third of NDL's four stackers and which held the Blue Ribbon for a short time.  Judging by the text, this is probably an entry-into-service brochure.  NDL was obviously very proud.

Every single image is covered by a piece of tissue paper that explains what we see in the photo, and each photo is a full page.  Brochure measures over 7" x 5" and runs 36 pages (including those tissue pages with text) and has 16 photos.  This brochure is simply amazing!  Slightly faded cover but otherwise near mint.  Tied with a cord.  $325.

NEW!

35972   Kaiser Wilhelm II                 Passenger List

This list is from her first year of service and is from her November 3, 1903, Bremen to New York crossing.  First and second class.  Very full list with lots of servants on board!  Complete list of officers and a sailing schedule.  In excellent condition with great cover art.  The back shows the ship in full color at sea.  Fantastic.  $50.

SOLD!

35668   U.S.S. Agamemnon (Kaiser Wilhelm II)                 Photo

Little did the Kaiser think that "his" liners, even his namesake, would be used against him to fight the first world war.  After being taken over by the US government when we entered the war, the Kaiser Wilhelm II was renamed the Agamemnon and was used as a troop transport.  She is absolutely bursting at the seems with dougboys.  A great photograph to get framed.  Some bumped corners and some spots in the sea and sky.  Otherwise excellent.  Measures about 13" x 8".  $40.

SOLD!

35900   Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse                 Flyer

Printed extract from the Weser Zeitung about the launch of the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse on May 5, 1897.  In English.  Three full pages of text.  She was the first passenger ship sunk during WWI and was lost on August 26, 1914, after a battle with the H.M.S. Highflyer.  Has a hole and has been folded.  All of the technical detail you would want about her launch and particulars!  $35.

SOLD!

35791   Kronprinz Wilhelm                Menu

Lunch menu for September 21, 1901.  Listed in German as "second breakfast" in English just "Luncheon".  Among the tasty delicacies on offer are eel in jelly and liver sausage.  Excellent condition.  $30.

SOLD!

35005   Kronprinz Wilhelm                Menu

Breakfast menu dated February 18, 1902.  Has been folded but was meant to be as it was supposed to be sent as a post cards.  Great image of the NDL training ship Herzogin Sophie Charlotte.  In great condition and from her first year of service.  $35.

NEW!

35953   Kronprinz Wilhelm                Passenger List

Dating to February 7, 1905, this list is for both first and second class.  Small passenger load because of the time of year.  Typical information in the back.  Small corner missing from back cover but otherwise perfect.  $40.

SOLD!

35184   Kronprinzessin Cecilie          Brochure

56 pages with 45 photos, nearly all full page.  All first and second class with some crew and working areas shown.  Lots of views, like the shaft tunnel, the print shop, first-class kitchen, the rooms of her Imperial suite, etc.  I was blown away by the photo of her fireplace and dome in the smoking room.  Almost certainly her entry-into-service brochure with lots of text about the history of the company.  In English.  Tied with a silk cord.  Some separation at spine.  Edges of the brochure has been very slightly trimmed but does not affect the text or photos.  Buy it for the photos.  You won't be disappointed.  $225.

NEW!

35718   Prinzessin Victoria Luise      Information for Passengers

Information card for passengers on a cruise to Cuba in 1904.  This one is for Santiago and has points of interest, restaurants, cab fares, excursion rates, etc., listed.  Excellent condition and measures 4½" x 3".  Edges are gold leafed.  A great item from the earliest days of cruising for pleasure.  $45.

NEW!

34510   Norddeutscher Lloyd            China, Cup and Saucer

Maroon-colored bone-china demitasse cup and saucer which conventional thought says is from the grill room on the Europa.  Excellent condition.  An exquisite piece.  Grab it while you can.  These fly off the shelves.  $195.

NEW!

35059   Norddeutscher Lloyd            China, Cup and Saucer

Fantastic demi-tasse cup and saucer in a very high-quality bone china.  From the pattern as used on the Bremen in the 1930's, happily all the cups are actually marked with the date of manufacture as 1938.  Don't you just love it when the china is thoughtfully dated for us collectors?  Mint condition.  $185.

NEW!

35740   Norddeutscher Lloyd            China, Egg Cup

Every ocean-liner company had to have egg cups, and they are quite collectible these days.  These examples from the Bremen are no exception.  Stands about 2" tall and in perfect condition.  Dates to the 1930's.  $125.

NEW!

35275   Norddeutscher Lloyd            China, Sauce Dish

Dating from the 1930's, this pattern was probably used on the Bremen.  Measures over 4" x 7" and stands 2" tall.  Like most good German china, it was made in Bavaria in this case by Bauscher Weiden.  Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.  $65.

14779   Norddeutscher Lloyd            Glassware

Unusually rare brandy snifter for NDL.  Couldn't have been many of these on board!  NDL logo etched on side.  In excellent condition.  No chips and cracks.  Stands 5" tall and 3" wide.  $35.

14333   Norddeutscher Lloyd            Glassware

Lovely NDL wine glass.  NDL logo etched on side.  In excellent condition, but has a small chip out of the base, which does not detract.  Would display very well.  Stands 6" tall and 3" wide.  $30.

14897   Norddeutscher Lloyd            Glassware

Juice glass for NDL.  How would you like your juice served in this every morning?  NDL logo etched on side and marked "Bremen" on the bottom although I don't know if this is a company mark.  Has etched mark on side "0,1L," meaning holds 1/10th of a liter.  In excellent condition with a tiny flea bite on rim.  Stands 3½" tall and 2" wide.  $20.

NEW!

35490   Norddeutscher Lloyd            Lighter

Souvenir lighter that dates to before the second world war.  "Made in Germany" on the bottom.  Made by Be Be Despalo, a well-known German lighter manufacturer.  Slight damage to leather on the back but does not show from front.  Measures about 2" x 2".  Souvenirs from this era of the company are very difficult to find.  $40.

16734   Norddeutscher Lloyd           Silverware

Lovely fish knife and fork.  Elegant decoration and good clear logos.  Dates to the 1920's-1930's.  Some wear to handles.  Fork measures 7", the knife is 8½".  The pair $35.
