Deckled-edge snapshot of the former Allan liner Virginian.  The Swedish American Line must have been very satisfied with the service given by her because she was in their service for about 31 years.  Excellent condition.  $18.

Great photo card of the old Virginian of the Allan Line.  This first turbine-driven liner was bought by Swedish American in 1920 and renamed Drottningholm.  In 1951, she was acquired by Home Lines, and this beauty was finally scrapped in 1955.  Extremely clear.  Unused and in mint condition.  $25.

It does not get much better than this for Swedish American Line!  Superb entry-into-service brochure for the 1966 Kungsholm.  Kungsolm was one of the last large liners built for the transatlantic run finishing up for SAL when they went under in 1975.  She was built by the ailing John Brown shipyard in Scotland.  She is still tenuously hanging on with us today as the Mona Lisa although she does not meet SOLAS standards going into effect this fall.  I suspect she will not be sailing much longer.  Mostly artist renderings in the brochure as the ship was so new.  A great set of fold-out deck plans inside.  $135.

Very rare snapshot of the first Stockholm at New York.  Originally built as the Potsdam for Holland America, she was acquired by Swedish American in 1915 and renamed Stockholm.  In 1929, she was sold to Norwegian interests and was scuttled by German troops in 1944 to block the entrance to Cherbourg harbor.  She was finally raised and broken up in 1947.  Excellent condition.  $25.

Early color-rendering card for the first ship named Stockholm.  She was the beginning of the Swedish American Line in 1915.   Unused and in excellent condition.  I wonder who the artist was....  $12.

Rarely do you see high quality silver items from the tables of Swedish American Line.  This sugar shaker is a fantastic example of the on board silver service most likely from the era of Kungsholm & Gripsholm.  Mint condition.  Made by Gense.  $95.

Stunning photo postcard of the sinking of the Galway Castle.  She was built at Harland & Wolff in 1911 as hull 419.  She was torpedoed on September 12, 1918 by the German submarine U-82.  She broke her back but amazingly did not sink for three more days!  She was Union Castle's last wartime loss.  A snapshot of history.  $40.

Measuring about 24" x 22", this color-coded deck plan for the Oranje is dated 1970 and is in mint condition.  Both first and tourist class -- one class to a side.  Union Castle sure liked hot pink in their decoration!  A note on the back states that she "meets International Safety Standards for new ships developed in 1948 but does not meet the 1966 Fire Safety requirements."  $40.

Entry-into-service brochure for the Pendennis Castle.  Built by Harland & Wolff, she made her maiden voyage in January, 1959, which is the date of this brochure.  Lots of full-color renderings and a cutaway.  Runs 12 pages and is in great condition other than some strange bubbling of the plastic coating on the covers

Color-coded plan.  First class one side, tourist class on the other.  Printed on glossy paper, and measures about 24" x 21".  15 color photos.  Excellent condition.  For some reason, its really difficult to find any good deck plans for Union Castle.  $40.

Double sided deck-plan for the Transvaal Castle.  On one side is the deck plan, and on the other are 13 full-color photos of the ship and her interiors (some of which are pretty bad, but I  guess it was the 1970's).  She became the SA Vaal of Safmarine.  Measures about 26" x 21".  In mint condition with a single tiny hole that is so small, I almost missed it.  $40.

Launched by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, the Windsor Castle survived in various forms until finally scrapped in India in 2005.  This deck plan is for first and tourist, one class to a side.  Lots of color.  The saturated primary colors used in her decor almost hurts my eyes!  Very good condition with a bumped top edge.  $40.

A double-sided plan for the SA Vaal.  It's interesting to use this plan to compare her to her former incarnation as the Transvaal Castle.  At some point her interiors were redone, but they definitely didn't improve!  15 photos of her interiors and exteriors.  Measures about 26" x 21" when open.  Very good condition.  $40.

Super early brochure for Union Castle, dating to the 1920's.  63 images (yes 63!) on 42 pages, many full page.  There is a complete fleet list at the front of the brochure with each ship and its tonnage listed.  Fantastic painting of the Winchester Castle by Kenneth Shoesmith on the front cover.  The best brochure I have ever seen for Union Castle.  $165.

Superb full-color first-class brochure for Union Castle.  To my mind, the Union Castle ships have always been under-appreciated but were absolute beauties!  This brochure runs 16 pages and has too many fantastic, rare color photos to mention.  Dates to the mid-1950's.  It has always been very difficult to find anything really good for Union Castle.  It just doesn't turn up.  Happily this is one of the best post war brochures produced.  Perfect condition other than a 3" long separation at the spine.  $95.

Union Castle egg cup.  Stands about 2" tall.  In very good condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.  $50.  

First-class side plate measuring 6½" across and backmarked with the line name.  Made by Royal Doulton.  See archival at left for image of the china in use on board the Edinburgh Castle.  Excellent condition.  $40.

Beautiful Union Castle tea pot.  Measures about 7" from handle to spout and about 3½" tall.  Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.  $145.

I wish I knew more about this pattern.  I have some thoughts that it might date to the 1950's.  If anyone has any information, please let me know.

Great tea cup for Union Castle.  A pair available.  One cup and saucer is slightly crazed (very slight).  The other set has a hairline in the saucer which cannot be seen from the top.  $75 each.

Large tea set serving platter.  The gold edge trim is in excellent shape.  Measuring 11" inches in diameter.  In very good condition.   No chips, some crazing on the back along with a couple of hairlines not visible from the front.  $75.

Bead plate from the Union Castle tea service.  Measure about 6¾" in diameter.  The gold edges are slightly worn else excellent.  $40. 

Dated January, 1959, this booklet gives rates and schedules for all of Union Castle's services.  Great condition.  $15.

Silver sugar shaker, which stands 5½" tall and is in excellent condition with a bit of wear to the logo.  Bottom marked Mappin & Webb and dated 1958.  (Thanks, Malcolm!)  Perhaps from the Pendennis Castle.  $50.

Unbelievable full-color entry-into-service brochure for the new Morro Castle and Oriente.  16 pages with 11 full-page color renderings of the public rooms, including the Writing Room (where the fire on the Morro Castle started), Smoking Room, Dining Room, etc.  There is a paragraph in the brochure that describes the excellence of the fire safety equipment on the Morro Castle and Oriente.

Near mint with some slight bumps to the corners.  Never seen another!  It really doesn't get any nicer for these famous ships.  Needless to say, it would be perfect for scanning for any Morro Castle project.  Rare doesn't begin to describe it.  $450.

The Morro Castle and Oriente are listed as the fastest "turbo-electric liners afloat," remember Normandie has not come into service yet.  This is a fold over brochure from the type kept on racks in local travel agencies. Just imagine the Americans selecting this brochure and booking these exotic and interesting cruises about 80 years ago.  Runs 16 pages and loaded with interesting on-board photos.  Some dirt on the cover with rusty staples.  Otherwise excellent condition.  $135.

Pre-maiden voyage brochure with lots of interior renderings.  About half the brochure is about the ships themselves, and the other half is about the various site-seeing tours one could take.  The tours look interesting but they are not very well named, being tour 1, tour 2, etc.  I have read the tours carefully as I hope to one day visit a freer Cuba.  $95. 

Absolutely fantastic deck plan for the Morro Castle/Oriente.  Measures about 32" when open.  Almost like a brochure as well as a deck plan.  One half is photos of the ship the other half being deck plans.  Filled with 10 interior and exterior renderings.  From her entry into service.  The line claimed these ships to be perfect and represented a nearly 10 million dollar outlay to build.  Near mint condition.  A travel agent sticker on the cover.  As you can imagine this is exceedingly rare.  $350.

Fold open deck plan that when opened measures about 17" x 40".  Not only do you get the deck plans you get fairs for "all expense cruises".  A cruise in the best suite in the early 1930's cost about $290 including hotel costs in Cuba.  One side is the ships deck plan the other side are tour/cruise options to Cuba.  Two inch tear at the spine and some small tears at the folds.  $150.
