Superb brochure for the America.  24 pages with 21 images of first and tourist class.   Centerfold broadside rendering with color cut-away renderings of four cabin types showing the various layouts.  Dates to the early 1950’s.  Primetime for the United States Lines.  One of the best brochures I’ve seen for her.  So mint it looks like it just came off the press.  Grab it!  $195.

A high-water mark for the United States Lines was when the new ss United States entered transatlantic service with the America.  What a pair!  They sailed full for many years averaging about 100,000 passengers a year between them.  Great brochure for these beautiful ships.  20 pages with lots of interior images for both first and tourist on both liners.  Dates to the mid-1950’s.  Excellent condition.  $95.

Cabin-class passenger list from her July 17, 1959, voyage from New York to Bremerhaven.  Good condition, some slight scuffing.  $12.

32346     America                    Passenger List

If you ever wondered where the America was during the maiden voyage of the United States, now you know!  She left Bremerhaven on June 30 and then departed Southampton on July 2 so she must have passed the United States at some point during the crossing to New York.  Wouldn't you like to see a photo of that passing?

38117     George Washington                    Deck Plan

Tourist third cabin plan for the ss George Washington.  Opens to about 28” x 22”.  Built in 1908 for North German Lloyd, she was interred at the beginning of World War I and taken over when the US entered the war.  She was scrapped in 1951.  Great condition with one slight hole at a fold.  $95.

Beautiful 32-page brochure devoted exclusively to the Leviathan.  27 photos with mostly amazing full-page interior views.  Mostly first class, there are a few views in second class.  Some of the more unusual photos include the breakfast room of one of the "Premier" suites, the Tea Room, a corner of the Winter Garden, the second-class lobby, and many more.  Fleet list at the back.  The liner's name is taken straight from the Bible as suggested by President Wilson.  One of the comprehensive brochures you'll ever see for her.  Great United States Lines logo on the back cover.  Arguably the best brochure ever done for her.  Near mint.  $95.

Nice smaller brochure.  32 pages with 13 photos, not including two pages of many pictures of famous passengers.  Many unusual views such as a corner of the library.  All first class.  Haven't seen this one before.  Near mint.  $65.

Deck plan for second class aboard Leviathan.  When opened, it measures 37" x 22".  Great logos. Color coded, would look great framed.  Dated April, 1929.  Some separation at the folds otherwise excellent.  $95.

Outstanding, very clear 8" x 10" photo of Leviathan which was taken when she entered the only dry dock in the United States large enough to hold her.  Thoughtfully noted at the bottom "Boston, January 22, 1929."  Attached to an album page and has some tearing in the lower right corner which does not affect the ship image.  Powerful photo!  $45.

Hard-to-find soup ladle from the on-board service of the Leviathan.  Good stuff for the Leviathan has always been very hard to find.  In very good condition with just the slightest wear to the logo and some waviness to the handle.  Made by Wallace and measures about 8½”.  $95.

Souvenirs for Leviathan are as rare as hen’s teeth, and happily this is a fantastic one.  This is only the second souvenir I have ever had for her.  A bar jigger in electroplated nickel silver.  Stands 2” tall.  Excellent condition with no damage to the enamel.  Don’t miss this chance to own a super item from a rare ship.  $225.

Pre-maiden voyage folio for the Manhattan.  16 individual sheets of full-color renderings of her interiors, each measuring about 11” x 9”.  Contains fares and a sailing schedule announcing her maiden voyage, and a press blurb.  Absolutely spectacular and mint.  $295.

38101   Manhattan                              Deck Plan, Cabin Class

Color-coded deck plan for the Manhattan.  What a great ship!  This plan has seven full-color overhead views of several different stateroom categories (USL loved to do those overhead views, huh?  They kept them up till the 60's.) and 25 images total.  Dates to June, 1934, and unfolds to 30” x 18”.  This plan is in the pattern used by IMM from 1929 on.  Some separation at the folds but otherwise great shape.  A fantastic plan that words don't due justice to.  Buy it, you will not be disappointed.  $175.

38797     Republic                              Deck Plan

Cabin-class plan for the ss Republic.  Dated June, 1924, this plan opens to about 41” x 28” so it’s quite large.  Color coded and detailed right down to the deck chair placement.  Did you know she had a dark room?  She was built for Hamburg-America and entered service as the President Grant.  Like all the early ships in the USL, she was captured German stock.  A few separations at the edges of the folds otherwise great condition.  $135.

"Come on in.  The water's fine!"  Excellent color-coded first-class plan for the United States.  There are so many cabins on Upper Deck and the deck is so long, that the plan has a fold-out!  Mint condition.  When the page for Upper Deck is unfolded, it measures about 40".  Lots of color interiors on every page.  Printed on glossy paper.  These are the best plans I've seen for her.  $50.

Great color-coded plan for cabin class (second).  Lots of  colorful interior images.  She had surprisingly spacious cabins in second class.  Seems most cabins have showers at the least.  Combined with full air-conditioning, this equals full luxury in second class.  Measures over 23" when unfolded.  Mint condition.  $45.

32464  United States                            Deck Plan, Tourist Class

Rarely seen plan for the third-class accommodations on board the United States.  Printed on glossy paper, this plan shows the added Writing Room and Library which were taken from first class around 1960 to increase the number of third-class public rooms.  In looking at the plan, I realized that none of her third-class cabins had bathrooms, only sinks.  Some scuffing to cover otherwise excellent condition.  $45.

Why is it that enameled souvenirs from the Queens are prevalent, but enameled items from the United States are quite hard to find?  Large ship's wheel pin that measures 1½" from knob to knob.  Excellent condition.  $85.

Cabin-class passenger list for the June 21, 1963, crossing.  The passenger has marked a few cabin numbers beside their friends' names.  Also comes with an unused tournament entry form with boxes to check if you want to participate in the ping pong, shuffleboard, quoits, etc., tournaments.  $12.

Highly sought-after aluminum stateroom vase from the s.s. United States.  Stands 13½" tall and is 7" in diameter at the mouth.  See archival photo for one in use on board.  Typically, the vase has a few dings and a small dent from use on board.  The previous owner purchased this at the traveling sale of some fittings shortly before the auction.  An exceptional opportunity!   $595.

38679     Washington/Manhattan                 Brochure, First Class

Very early full-color cabin-class (first class) brochure for for Washington and Manhattan.  Twelve pages, and each page has a full-color rendering of the different cabin options from suites down to an inside.  These two liners were among the most popular on the Atlantic in the mid-1930’s.  According to Frank Braynard, their occupancy rate was 72% versus 59% for the Normandie in her inaugural season.  Measures about 9” x 6”.  An amazing brochure for two ships we see little for.  Dated May, 1933.  Near-mint condition.  $165.

38450     Washington/Manhattan                 Brochure, Tourist Class

Twelve-page tourist-class brochure for the Manhattan and Washington.  “These great ships were built in America to provide American luxury,” and they boasted the first air-conditioned dining rooms on the Atlantic.  Twelve pages with twelve photos.  Measures about 9” x 6”.  Dates to April of 1934.  So crisp, it looks like it just came off the travels agent’s shelf.  Mint.  $135.

38745     Washington/Manhattan                 Deck Plan

Absolutely massive color-coded deck plan for first class and tourist on the Manhattan and Washington.  When opened measures about 35” x 24”.  Dated August, 1940. Opens like a brochure so that you can leaf through it.  About 50 photos and illustrations, some in color, of the ship and the ports.  Advertising various cruises.  Because of the war, the Atlantic service had been discontinued.  On the back is an advertisement for the America, “our new Queen of the Seas.”  The ships, it seems, were nearly identical on the upper decks.  Below on C, D, and E decks there were many changes with Washington having much larger cabins.  Very good condition with the usual separations at one of the folds.  $195.

The “Blue Wave Steamer Rug” in soft reversible wool made for the United States Lines by Horner Woolen Mills, Co.  Extremely soft wool, not the scratchy type.  In excellent condition with a tiny, tiny stain and a small cut that you can almost not even find.  No other visible issues.  Measures about 46” x 46” with tasseled edges.  $225.

38577   United States Lines              Blanket, Cabin

Peach-colored wool cabin blanket made by Horner for use in the cabins on board the ss United States.  All the blankets I have seen are dated, some 1960, 1959, 1957, but happily this one is 1952, which is obviously the best date!  Getting hard to find with this date.  Measures about 76” x 54”.  Excellent condition with a couple of small stains as seen in the last photo.  They all have these stains which I think is a result of their long time spent in storage on the ship.  $195.

32457   United States Lines               Brochure, Cargo Service

"Popular trips on cargo ships."  Fold-out brochure for the cargo/passenger services of the United States Lines.  Has deck plans for each class of ship and full general information, including the cost to ship a car.  The C-2 ships had a dining room that doubled as a lounge and only four cabins, two of which were singles for males only.  The Mariner ships were slightly nicer and had a lounge and a dining room.  Dates to post-1964 but pre-1969.  I understand that passengers being carried on cargo ships is now a declining trend.  Excellent condition.  $25.

Banded in red and marked in Hebrew “Kosher Meat,” this side bowl measures about 6¾” in diameter.  Excellent condition, no chips, cracks, or crazing.  Made by Mayer.  $75.

An interesting side note:  One former crew member related that the ssUS did not have a separate Kosher kitchen so she carried pre-packaged frozen Kosher meals.  Very cutting edge for the 1950’s!  One wonders what they tasted like....

Side plate as used on board the ss United States.  7½" in diameter.  Made by Mayer china and dated 1-63.  Near mint with a few utensil marks.  Three available @ $45 ea.

6¼" in diameter.  Near mint with a few utensil marks.  These were purchased at the United States auction by the prior owner.  Note the archival showing ss US's third-class dining room with bread plates set on the tables.  Only one left. $35.

Lavishly illustrated brochure for the United States Shipping Board.  40 pages with one full-page photo to nearly every page.  Covers ships such as the Leviathan, George Washington, America, Pan America, etc.  Extensive information on LASSCO, Pacific Mail, Munson Lines, United States Lines, etc.  Includes a route map.  In short, the most information (with photos) I have seen about the passenger ships owned by the US government in the 1920's.  In excellent condition.  $85.
